An Albuquerque man, Jason Baca, is facing federal charges for allegedly pointing a gun at Bernalillo County Sheriff's deputies during a traffic stop in 2025. The incident occurred when BCSO deputies attempted to stop a vehicle with an invalid registration and revoked its driver's license. The U.S. Attorney's Office says Baca resisted arrest and then ran from officers and pointed a firearm at them, leading to deputies firing back and Baca being hit. During a search, Baca was found with fentanyl pills and 25.65 grams of fentanyl powder. Baca has been federally charged with felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, assault on a federal officer, and will remain in custody until trial.
