Mountainair Ranger District ALBUQUERQUE, NM – October 26, 2026 – The Cibola National Forest & National Grasslands (NF & NGs) is planning prescribed (Rx) fire pile burning on Pueblo Colorado… The Cibola National Forest & National Grasslands (NF & NGs) is planning a prescribed (Rx) fire pile burning on Pueblo Colorado unit as early as October 28 on the Mountainair Ranger District in the Gallinas Mountains in Torrance County, NM. The project may continue as long as conditions allow. Recent precipitation, cooler temperatures, and improved relative humidity have provided suitable conditions for burning. No closures are planned, but residents should remain alert due to smoke from Willard, Cedarvale, Corona or within the Estancia Valley. If conditions are not favorable, planned prescribed fire activities may be postponed or canceled.
