In Albuquerque, UNM students joined over 100 marchers to U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich's downtown office for a rally. The walkout also targeted Project Jupiter in Santa Teresa and the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act, which critics argue would gut environmental protections and allow corporations to sue when projects are denied. The bill, introduced by Heinrich with Sens. Shelley Moore Capito and Mike Lee, would speed federal permits for solar farms, power lines and oil and gas pipelines, narrow environmental reviews and limit litigation to federal courts. Solar and gas industry groups support the deal, while Earthjustice and the Sierra Club oppose it.
